Planning together in a long-distance relationship

Long-distance couples plan more than most: visits, flights, gifts, calls across time zones. Many end up making their own private space for it, like a chat server just for the two of them.

Here’s how to keep your shared plans in one calm place.

Plan visits together

  • Keep a card for each visit: dates, flights, what to bring.
  • Add a checklist for each trip, and tick it off as you prepare.
  • Save up for flights together.

Keep the small things shared

You don’t share a fridge, but you can share the list of things you’re each working on, the gift you’re planning for a friend, or the film you want to watch together next.

Stay close between visits

  • Answer the same small question each day, and read each other’s answer.
  • Leave a note for your partner to find.
  • Cheer each other on when something gets done.

Plan the next visit before this one ends

Having the next visit on the list, even without dates yet, gives you both something to look forward to. Add the ideas as they come up: places to eat, friends to see, things to bring next time.

Keep it calm

Distance makes it easy to over-message. A shared space where plans just sit, ready when you are, takes some pressure off your chats.
