Why not just text each other, or use a calendar?
It’s the first question most people ask: “Why would we use an app when we can just text, or put it in the calendar?”
Fair question. Here’s what each one is good at, and the gap in between.
What a calendar is for
A calendar holds what’s scheduled: the dentist at 3pm, the flight on Friday. It’s great once something has a time.
But most of the household load isn’t scheduled yet: “we should book the car service”, “we need a gift for Sam”, “the gutters need doing at some point”. Those live in someone’s head until they finally make it onto the calendar.
What texting is for
Texts are fast and personal. They’re how you check in on each other. But as a to-do list, they get buried, they’re hard to look back on, and a steady stream of “can you…?” can start to feel like pressure.
The gap in between
Your calendar has what’s scheduled. A shared list has everything that isn’t, yet: the to-dos, plans and “we should…” that would otherwise sit in one person’s head or get lost in a chat.
Use both
- Keep your calendar for appointments and times.
- Keep your texts for each other.
- Keep the shared to-dos in one place you both see.
